Market Brief
Market Read
  • The current market regime is characterized by rotation, with a 60% confidence level, indicating a potential shift in sector leadership.
  • The economic cycle is in a slowdown phase, with a confidence of 56%, suggesting that market trends are weakening and there is rising volatility.
  • Despite recent oversold breadth conditions and an advancing-declining volume imbalance favoring advances, the Nifty 50 showed resilience, rising by 0.7% with a modest VIX increase.
Risk Posture
  • Maintain a cautious stance given the ongoing net foreign institutional investor (FII) selling, with a net outflow of INR 1,462.49 crore today, contrasted by domestic institutional investors (DII) absorbing with net buying.
  • The breadth indicator signals oversold conditions, however, a TRIN reading near neutral suggests a balanced risk environment but urges vigilance.
Where to Focus
  • Focus on sectors favored in the slowdown phase, specifically FMCG, Pharma, and IT, with strong recent momentum in IT & Technology, which gained 14.6% in the last month.
  • Avoid sectors like Metals, Auto, and Real Estate due to their unfavorable positioning within the current economic context.
What Would Change
  • A sustained improvement in FII inflows coupled with a significant reversal in TRIN and breadth readings towards overbought conditions could signal a potential shift towards a more bullish market regime.
  • Additionally, an upswing in high-confidence recovery signals within the economic cycle would warrant reevaluation of current assessments.

Sector Analysis Narratives

IT & Technology
HIGH Conviction
📈 Rotation Dynamics
  • The IT & Technology sector leading the rotation rankings boasts a rotation score of 18.4 driven by strong near-term momentum, with a 1M return of +14.6% and an RS vs Nifty500 of +19.0%.
  • The sector exhibits a healthy technical breadth at 89% above 50DMA, indicating strong participation.
🏭 Fundamental Drivers
  • Despite relatively neutral seasonal conditions, the sector benefits from macro tailwinds with a minor positive impact of +0.18 supported by India VIX stability and Nifty 50 resilience.
  • Valuation multiples, supported by earnings beats and robust sales dynamics, strengthen strategic interest.
⚠️ Risk & Tactical View
  • Investors should maintain a high-conviction stance, watching for potential pullbacks to supertrend support near ₹1914.60 on leading equities for tactical positioning, aware of overbought conditions as seen with RSI levels stretching beyond 75.

Pharma & Healthcare
MEDIUM Conviction
📈 Rotation Dynamics
  • Pharma & Healthcare ranks second but has shown recent underperformance with a 1M decline of -4.6% and stagnant relative strength against Nifty 500 of -0.1%.
  • The breadth is considerably weak with only 20% of stocks above their 50DMA, reflecting sectoral pressure.
🏭 Fundamental Drivers
  • Externally, the sector faces headwinds from a negative macro backdrop (-0.22) largely due to the rising India VIX and stagnant Nifty 50 movements, implying cautious policy and market sentiment impacts.
  • Earnings still show resilience, necessitating strategic allocation.
⚠️ Risk & Tactical View
  • Given these conditions, a medium-conviction outlook is advisable; investors should watch RSI conditions near 58.8% for signs of recovery and stabilization around support levels close to ₹1933.50.
  • Pharma is still behaving like a defensive-growth pocket rather than a broad beta leader.
  • The sector is up -4.6% over 1M with RS -0.1% vs Nifty 500, but only 20% of names above 50DMA, so the trade remains selective.
  • Prefer earnings-visible leaders and avoid paying up for weak follow-through.

Media & Entertainment
MEDIUM Conviction
📈 Rotation Dynamics
  • Ranked third, the Media & Entertainment sector shows small gains at +0.5% over the past month alongside healthy relative strength at +4.9% against Nifty 500, although breadth data remains lacking.
🏭 Fundamental Drivers
  • The sector is supported by macro tailwinds (+0.32) providing a fertile ground for potential strategic shifts, despite mixed cyclical performance.
  • Valuations remain attractive due to recent corrections.
⚠️ Risk & Tactical View
  • A medium-conviction view holds; investors should exercise discretion, especially seeking buy points on corrections near supertrend levels of ₹1294.66 while watching seasonal data for any positive surprises in Nifty Media broad deliverables.
RS vs Nifty500: +4.9%Macro tailwinds: +0.32Seasonal: NEUTRAL
Capital Markets
LOW Conviction
📈 Rotation Dynamics
  • The Capital Markets sector holds a fourth ranking with negative sentiment reflected in recent declines across multiple timeframes, and a rotation score of 2.8.
  • Monthly returns show a -4.6% decline with relative strength against Nifty500 faltering at -0.2%, coupled with weak breadth (13% above 50DMA).
🏭 Fundamental Drivers
  • Despite neutral seasonal factors, a watchful macro backdrop and policy settings maintain situational overhangs impacting sentiment, with deficient aggregate earnings momentum not aiding recovery.
⚠️ Risk & Tactical View
  • A low-conviction stance is prudent; investors are advised to limit exposure until technical breadth recovers meaningfully.
  • Monitor critical resistance levels near ₹5018.60 before more decisive positioning.
  • Capital Markets is a secondary rotation lane at the moment: -4.6% over 1M and RS -0.2% show constructive but not decisive leadership, while 13% of names above 50DMA keeps conviction below the primary leaders.
  • Use this group tactically and demand price confirmation before adding exposure.
Market Decline: -4.6%RS vs Nifty500: -0.2%Breadth: 13% WEAKSector-specific tactical note
Banking - Private
LOW Conviction
📈 Rotation Dynamics
  • Banking - Private ranks #5 in the current NSE rotation screen with a composite score of 2.6, driven by a -0.2% 1-month return and +4.2% relative strength above Nifty 500 — moderate outperformance.
  • The 5-day return of -1.3% suggests brief consolidation within the broader uptrend.
  • Momentum is accelerating: the 1M gain of -0.2% exceeds the 3M annualized run-rate (-0.7% per month), implying a fresh acceleration.
🏭 Fundamental Drivers
  • The balanced timeframe profile — 1M -0.2%, 3M -2.1%, 6M +0.4% — indicates a sector building momentum progressively.
  • The rotation score of 2.6 and 1M relative strength of +4.2% place this sector in the tactical opportunity zone.
⚠️ Risk & Tactical View
  • Key watchpoints: sustaining RS above 2.5% (40% pullback threshold) on consolidation would confirm the rotation is durable.
  • Risk: rotation score of 2.6 is below 5, suggesting weak conviction — monitor for a drop out of the top 6.

Capital Goods & Industrials
LOW Conviction
📈 Rotation Dynamics
  • Capital Goods & Industrials ranks #6 in the current NSE rotation screen with a composite score of 1.3, driven by a -7.0% 1-month return and -2.6% relative strength above Nifty 500 — near-benchmark performance.
  • The 5-day return of -2.4% suggests brief consolidation within the broader uptrend.
  • Momentum is decelerating: the 1M gain of -7.0% lags the 3M annualized run-rate (-2.4% per month), suggesting momentum may be normalizing.
🏭 Fundamental Drivers
  • The 6-month return of -4.3% reveals that the recent -7.0% 1M surge is a recovery rally rather than a trend continuation.
  • Positioning should remain tactical: the 1M relative strength of -2.6% vs Nifty 500 warrants attention but the negative 6M base demands caution on sizing.
⚠️ Risk & Tactical View
  • Key watchpoints: sustaining RS above -1.6% (40% pullback threshold) on consolidation would confirm the rotation is durable.
  • Risk: rotation score of 1.3 is below 5, suggesting weak conviction — monitor for a drop out of the top 6.

Short-Term Technical View
Broader market and selected index view from PostgreSQL index EOD history. Latest data: 2026-10-26.

Broader Market Technical Narrative

Market Regime
  • The broader market regime is exhibiting weak to bearish characteristics across most sectors, with Nifty 50, Nifty Midcap 100, Nifty Smallcap 100, and other key indices underperforming in recent weeks.
Laggards & Watch Areas
  • In summary, apart from rare outliers like Nifty IT, most NSE sectors currently dwell in bearish territories, necessitating careful observation of resistance levels and RSI momentum for signs of potential reversals.
Confirmation & Key Levels
  • In contrast, sectors such as Nifty Energy, Nifty FMCG, and Nifty Midcap 100 are witnessing bearish trends with MACD confirmation and RSI levels indicating potential oversold conditions without significant contraction patterns.
VWAP / Data Limits
  • Nifty IT stands as a relative strength leader due to its constructive trend and bullish MACD signal, supported by alignment above the 20, 50, and 200 SMAs, though it lacks a VCP pattern and VWAP data.
  • Key support and resistance levels present challenges and opportunities for these sectors, with broader market VWAP applicability limited.
Data note: VWAP is marked unavailable where index volume is absent or zero.

Tactical Read

At the time of this cache, the read was: The global backdrop is mixed, so the best Indian trades will still come from local relative strength and price confirmation. The cache is 150 days old, so this section is stale directional context, not a current global market read. The clearest India read-through from this cache is: IT & Technology: positive; Electronics / EMS: positive; Energy - Oil & Gas: positive; Aviation / Paints / Tyres: negative. That does not automatically translate into a trade, but it does help rank sectors that may benefit if global leadership keeps holding.

This tab uses local US/global cache only. It does not fetch data while rendering the NSE report.

Methodology
How each score and screen is calculated.
1 · Scoring Frameworks
R
Sector Rotation Score

Ranks sectors by short-term momentum and relative strength versus the Nifty 500 benchmark. Positive values mean the sector is outperforming the broad market. The five sub-components capture momentum across multiple timeframes, with the heaviest weight on 1-month RS.

0.35 × RS_1M + 0.25 × RET_1M
+ 0.20 × RS_5D + 0.10 × RS_3M + 0.10 × RS_6M
RS_xM = sector return minus Nifty 500 return over the same period
S
Investment Score

Per-stock composite score (0–100+) that blends price momentum, relative strength, fundamentals, and qualitative bonuses. Use it to rank candidates within a sector, not across sectors. Stage 2 stocks receive +4; Stage 3 = −5; Stage 4 = −8.

0.38 × Tech + 0.27 × RS_rank + 0.25 × Fund
+ Pattern bonus (+3) + Supertrend bonus (+2)
+ Signal bonus (F&O/Insider) + Stage bonus (±4/−5/−8)
T
Technical Score

Aggregates price-based momentum signals: RSI (14), distance from 52W high, SMA50/SMA200 position, short-term rate-of-change, and volume trend. Scored 0–100; values above 60 indicate strong uptrend conditions.

F
Fundamental Score

Enhanced composite score sourced from the Screener.in pipeline, covering earnings quality, revenue growth, balance sheet strength, and institutional interest. Refreshed weekly.

Score: 0–100 · Source: fundamental_scores_database.csv

P
Peak Resilience Score

Identifies stocks trading within 20% of their 52-week high — the hallmark of institutional accumulation. Scores favour stocks near their peak with strong technicals, fast drawdown recovery, and solid fundamentals.

0.25 × Tech + 0.20 × RS + 0.20 × RecoverySpeed
+ 0.20 × HighProximity + 0.15 × Fund
2 · Trend & Pattern Indicators
ST
Supertrend

ATR-based dynamic support/resistance line. When price closes above the band the signal turns Bullish; below it turns Bearish. A flip from Bear→Bull adds +2 to the Investment Score. Works best on daily timeframe with a 1–2 week holding horizon.

Period: 10 · Multiplier: 3.0 · Source: NSE OHLC cache
Score bonus: +2 (Bull), −1 (Bear)
B
Consolidation Breakout

Flags stocks that have just broken above a tight multi-week base. Requires the latest close to exceed the prior 20-session high, the base to be narrow (≤12% range), and volume to spike to at least 1.4× the 20-day average — confirming institutional demand.

Lookback: 20 sessions · Base width ≤ 12%
Volume threshold: 1.4× 20D avg · Score bonus: +3
A1
Stage Analysis (O'Neil / Weinstein)

Classifies every stock into one of four price-cycle stages using the SMA 50/200 structure and their slopes. Stage 2 is the preferred research filter for long-only setups (not a buy recommendation). Stage 3 (distribution) and Stage 4 (decline) are excluded from the research shortlist.

  • Stage 2 — Markup ✅: Price > SMA50 > SMA200, both slopes rising, within 20% of 52W high. Score +4.
  • Stage 1 — Base: Price near 200 DMA, MAs flat. Accumulation phase. Score 0.
  • Stage 3 — Distribution ⚠: Near highs but SMA50 flattening, ATR expanding. Score −5.
  • Stage 4 — Decline ❌: Price < SMA50 < SMA200, both MAs falling. Score −8.

Reading the Signals Button

Each stock row has a compact Signals button showing three coloured dots. Click to expand a popup with the full detail for each signal type. Click anywhere else to close.

Green — Bullish signal (F&O bull, insider buy, bullish event)
Red — Bearish signal (F&O bear, insider sell/pledge)
Grey — Neutral / mixed signal
Blue — Upcoming corporate event
Light — No data for this signal type
F&O
F&O Signals

Derived from NSE Futures & Options data. The Put/Call Ratio (PCR) and Open Interest (OI) trend identify smart-money positioning. An expanding OI with rising price confirms a strong trend; falling OI on a rally is a warning.

  • BULL: PCR > 1.2 or OI trending up with price rise
  • MILD_BULL / MILD_BEAR: Mixed OI signals
  • BEAR: PCR < 0.7 or OI building on price decline
Score bonus: +2 (BULL), +1 (MILD_BULL), −1 (MILD_BEAR), −3 (BEAR)
IN
Insider Alerts

Monitors SEBI bulk/block deal disclosures and promoter shareholding changes. Promoter buying at market price is one of the strongest fundamental signals; promoter pledging or large block selling flags elevated risk.

EV
Corporate Events

Surfaces the next material event (earnings, dividend, board meeting, AGM, split, bonus) from the NSE corporate actions calendar. Urgency is colour-coded by days remaining.

  • 🔴 ≤ 3 days: Imminent — animated pulse badge
  • 🟡 4–7 days: This week — amber badge
  • 🔵 8–30 days: Upcoming — blue badge
  • ⚪ > 30 days: Far out — grey badge

4 · Sectoral Seasonality — How to Read the Heat Calendar
B3
Sectoral Heat Calendar (7-Year Monthly Returns)

The heat calendar shows the average return for each NSE sector index in every calendar month, computed over the last 7 years of NSE index data. It answers: "Historically, has this sector tended to go up or down in this month?"

Reading the Colours
> +5%
+2% → +5%
+1% → +2%
0% → +1%
−1% → 0%
−1% → −2%
−2% → −5%
−5% → −10%
< −10%

Arrows inside each cell: ↑ avg > +1% · → flat (−0.5% to +1%) · ↓ avg < −0.5%.
The current month row is highlighted in blue with a ◀ marker.

Signals Derived

Each sector is tagged TAILWIND, HEADWIND, or NEUTRAL for the current month based on its historical average return:

  • TAILWIND: avg monthly return > +2% over ≥5 years of data
  • HEADWIND: avg monthly return < −1%
  • NEUTRAL: between −1% and +2%, or fewer than 5 observations

These signals appear as coloured tags on sector headers in the Sector Rotation tab and as a summary in the Overview.

⚠ Interpretation Guidance

Seasonal patterns are probabilistic, not deterministic. A TAILWIND month improves the base rate; it does not guarantee a positive return. Always cross-reference with the Rotation Score and the current market regime (displayed in the top banner). A HEADWIND season in a strong uptrend sector is less of a deterrent than in a weakening one. Use seasonality as a tie-breaker, not the primary filter.

DD
Drawdown from 52W High

The DD% column shows how far the index is currently trading below its 52-week high. This is the most direct measure of whether an index has corrected or is still near peak levels.

  • 0% to −5%: Near all-time / 52W high — strong trend
  • −5% to −15%: Healthy pullback — possible buy zone
  • −15% to −30%: Correction — wait for base or reversal signal
  • > −30%: Deep decline — avoid unless very strong catalyst
